New Product: Snap-Hoop in Action

The Snap-Hoop system in action:

I recently had the opportunity to try out the new Snap-Hoop from Designs In Machine Embroidery. This magnetic hoop was really easy to use and worked quite well. The hoop has two pieces to it: a metal base and a magnetic top hoop. Since it comes in different sizes for different machine brands, you will need to pick the size that will best suit your embroidery needs.

Here’s what you do once you receive your Snap-Hoop set:

  1. The base of the hoop attaches to your machine as any normal hoop does.
  2. Simply place your fabric and stabilizer over the hoop’s base and then place the top piece over that to secure the fabric in place.  The set even comes with ruler stickers that can be placed on the top hoop to aid with the realignment of your project.
  3. When you put your fabric in the hoop, align the reference lines that you have drawn on your fabric with the same measurement marking on both the top and bottom of the hoop. The magnetic top grips the fabric quite nicely.
  4. When you are ready to continue on to the next design; just lift the top hoop off, move the fabric to the next location, make sure that you reference line matches the appropriate ruler markings.
  5. Adjust the needle to the correct location and sew. Simply perfect!

I found that the Snap Hoop worked well with designs of typical density and made it quite easy to sew larger continuous designs, quilts, towels, and even awkward to hoop items. Since the hoop holds things flat, not bending the fabric around an inner hoop, I found that it was great for decorative papers, wood projects and was less likely to warp the fabric.

If you enjoy embroidering on many different types of projects, like I do, you will like the ease of working with Snap-Hoop. Leave a comment below to share your experiences with Snap-Hoop. I’m eager to hear how it’s working out for everybody and what projects you’re attempting with it.

Have fun!

Will the Snap-Hoop work on my Husquvarna Designer SE?

  2. Connie says:

Reva — I ordered the Quilt-N-Hoop (or similar name) for my Brother 4000D after being assured by Quality Sewing that it would hold my fabric securely with the magnets. I was skeptical because the magnets were placed just at points around the hoop, and the magnets were not all the way around the hoop. Unfortunately, when I tried to embroider on organza (2 layers with stabilizer), it just didn’t hold enough and my embroidery design became mangled, warped, twisted, skewed, and totally unusable. After the 3rd attempt with identical results, I gave up and returned the hoop.

Does this hoop have more magnet coverage? Is it going to hold organza and stabilizer, or even just water soluble stabilizer alone or does it require that you hoop something fairly stable in the first place before my embroidery will turn out satisfactorily? I’d love to be able to use a hoop that keeps the fabric flat, but even more than that, I need it to keep the fabric stable. Putting time and thread and supplies into an embroidery design that I have to toss doesn’t make sense. Does this hoop do what I want it to do?

    Hi Sue,

Yes the 120×120 version of this hoop does work on the Viking Designer SE.

  4. Paula says:

Does this work with the Pfaff Creative Vision?

  5. Carmen says:

    Hi Connie,

I am not positive that this will hold sheer fabric adequately for all designs. If the design is light in density, it should work, but I have not tested it for that purpose. However, I am going to do so – so check back and I will let you know!

We tried to sew out two different designs (different stitch counts) on a single piece of stabilizer in the snap hoop, as well as the same two designs on two pieces of stabilizer. On all four test sews, the stabilizer pulled towards the middle of the hoop and the designs became very puckery.

After working with the snap hoop we feel that light weight fabric would not work very well. The hoop is designed for normal to heavy weight fabric. However, you could use use a sticky stabilizer (floriani perfect stick) and wrap the stabilizer around the hoop and then embroidery on it. If you wanted to be able to use the hoop for all things.
